I'm sorry.

Due to yet another hacker's intrusion (my third in four years) I have had to scale back deslea.com.

Every time I'm hit, I have to re-upload all my files - 2Gb+ - from a slow connection. It takes weeks, and it isn't just set and forget. I have to monitor the upload and track down the dropouts and re-upload again. I work for a living, and I have a household to run. Unlike our hacker friends, I actually have a life, and I do not have the luxury of going through this process every 9-18 months.

Hackers are getting more prevalent and more mindlessly destructive. I wanted to keep my content available for X-Philes indefinitely, but I can't do that anymore. Being a webmaster used to be a matter of uploading the files and paying the bills, but now it's also a matter of keeping a clean, virus free environment. And I do enough housekeeping in real life.

The last time I was hit - November 2008 - I said there would be no more. I would restore one final time with a new webhost, and that would be the end of it. My visitors could have it for however long it lasted and no more than that. And now, in October 2009, that time has come. The fiction site remains. Those of you who enjoyed it in the past can still find it in the same place. Same goes for the video site. And that's about all.
